Suggestion: Make the record scratch able to be used with the D-pad, as sometimes I experience my joystick registering inputs that are caused by it snapping back to the center
(In other words, I make an up input, but because my controller flicked back down a bit too far, it would register a down input shortly after)
If everything's setup correctly on your end, the Dpad should work, so you might wanna double check the troubleshooting guide if you haven't already, but regardless, the next build will have much easier controller setup so it'll work for sure there!
Just gave ya a 10 bucks for basically making the new Parappa/Lammy game we ain't ever gonna get, ha.
Wanna show my support 'cus I love rhythm/music games like these, DDR and FNF, while good, like, I can't play them, I go crosseye with all of them arrows going at lightspeed, eh.
I said in a youtube comment that if the game was moddable, I'd basically make my own, but guess no worries, I ain't no good with coding, nor making music or what, so... yeah, lol, I'm useless.
I would like to give more support and maybe even help out with the game personally, but all am good at is making some decent art, nothing much. Tho the game's style is adorbs, I love it~ <3
Welp, guess I'll just wait up for more content in the game, keep up da good work~
Some things that I like and I think that needs work
The things I liked! + Gameplay is great, a spiritual successor to Parappa the Rapper with key difference which is supporting the bar. I usually see this in modded Parappa videos but man it feels great to play and listen when you go along with the "rival" + Music is great as well! My thoughts for this is like if I have a music player and I'm just in it for a long car ride, I can use this to pass the time and enjoy the beats
The things I feel that needs work... ! There are few to some cases that inputing an incorrect key would literally sabotage the entire line and there is no way of salvaging it, I would get if my rhythm is wack but accidentally hitting a wrong key and unable to redeem just kinda sucks ! Supporting the Bar needs work, especially if you decide to have levels that require input immediately after finishing a line ! Scoring System needs work, gives me false hope on certain cases like if I get a 1346 on Funk and then the results tell me I got 1052 ! Having Vocaloid Voices (if that's what I'm hearing) is good but I wish they are louder than the music since some of it feels muffled to the audio track
Overall, great game demo, I really enjoyed the concept and after playing it for like 3 days, grinding for S Rank and attempting to get Acsencion Mode, I really enjoyed the experience, despite the small problems I ran into. Here's to good luck on your game!
after closing the game, avast detected it as IDP.Generic and moved it to quarantine, just letting people with avast know, i'm pretty sure it's a false positive
This game is awesome. And I found some strange bug:
Pressing ESC in main menu will broke the game. The menu and buttons will overlap, and when you try to enter the level selection screen, the gramophone on the right will not appear. In general, the game will start to behave incorrectly.
Hey, I think I've found a glitch in Grease Poppin' where the stage at first plays normally, but once I get to the end, the stage just loops and kills me, instead of taking me to the scoring screen. MCwave cursed my game help
Ohh, that's odd. Does it happen every time? If you can, I'd appreciate if you'd email over the "Player-prev" file located in "C:\Users\[YourName]\AppData\LocalLow\LJ LephemStar\Scratchin' Melodii - SAGE 2021 Demo" toScratchin-Melodii-game@outlook.com That file has an error log I can look at to (hopefully) see what the problem is and fix it in future builds, sorry it's happening to you!
Hey, I loved the game a lot! is there any place where I can follow the development? I would love the keep an eye on it because it already looks fantastic!
Hey, thank you!! At the moment, the closest thing to that would probably be my Twitter @LephemStar91. (Although I will warn that also includes unrelated posts of me being a nerd lol) There may be larger chunks of info/updates that show up on the itch devlog sometimes here too!
Hey, I love the game, but for me the L and R buttons only ever work on the first bar they're used? Like I can use L on the "sweet sweet magic" bar, but after that it's as though I don't have L and R buttons at all according to the game. I'd think it was my controller but L works on that bar, and my L and R buttons don't have issues in other games. I'm on a Xbox One controller if that makes a difference. The game is great so far though!
Heya, sorry you're having problems!! Controllers have been very unpredictable and tricky considering everyone uses a different kind on PC, but if you've already tried everything in troubleshooting, the next demo will have native controller support which should (hopefully) kill the problem at its core. Thank you!!
Yeah I imported it to steam and sadly the same problem happens. It recognizes both LB and LT on the L prompt in the bar that works, so I'm not sure what the deal is lol Can't wait for the next demo!
Edit: Actually Q and E aren't working on keyboard for me either, I wonder if anyone else has this issue or if it's just me.
Love the game! Funk + PTR + Cutesy graphics is such a lovely mix!
Some things that I’ve encountered on my playthrough:
The support parts are way too sudden and I keep missing them, maybe some sort of UI cue on the previous sentence might help!
The filter on the voices is a bit too strong IMO, neither me or my friends could understand most of the lyrics, do note however that neither of us is a native english speaker (though most of the content we consume is in english). I could read the subtitles on the cutscenes but during gameplay I can’t read cause I’m focused on the chart.
The L/R icons look too much alike, I kept pressing the wrong ones
That said, I can’t wait to see how this game will evolve!
Thanks! The current to-do list includes warnings for upcoming Support bars, more tweaking to button prompts, and potentially a "Sing-along lyrics" option where they appear under the buttons if I can get it working,,, so hopefully those will do justice!
It's really cool, except I can't play the game, the d-pad inputs on my controller don't work and the YX and AB button inputs are swapped. Ontop of that the game decides to just not let me do anything by constantly cycling through every menu option without me pressing anything. I'll leave a video showing what I mean.
Hi, a lot going on here so try these out: First, that looks like a case of your Pro Controller's joystick drifting upwards a little. (Perhaps try calibrating it in your Steam Controller settings?) As for the buttons being swapped, You should either change to the "XB" layout in options or just go to your Steam's controller settings and disable "Nintendo Button Layout" there, as when that's on it swaps the ABXY buttons to match games that only have Xbox button prompts. Not sure why your DPad isn't working, but I tried using the same controller as you and got proper results with my Steam Controller Settings setup like this. I hope this helps!
Thanks for your reply! I think the button swapping might just be because I had the in-game controller configuration set to Generic. As for the menu swapping, it happens no matter what controller I'm using, even if I'm not using a controller in the first place. Everything is calibrated and set up correctly for the controller. I have absolutely no idea what could be causing the menu to freak out.
Such a cute and fun game! I absolutely love the soundtrack and your artstyle. The only thing I'd suggest is to maybe put in an animation or something to make it clearer to the player when they repeat or support the bar. It was a little hard to tell with everything going on. Can't wait til the full release! :)
This is great! I got a B on the first level and C on the boss. In terms of level design, I really preferred the boss. The rival level felt pretty short. It might even be a good idea to make every level bossesque. The artwork, music, cutscenes, everything - very well done.
This game is so good and i love the art style but its so hard 😫 i could barley get the patterns lol, but other then that i love the animation and the story, its really creative and well made!!
I really love this!!! The artwork is really good, the beats are bumping, and the whole thing oozes charm. I also like the voices (I know vocaloid/utau when I hear it), but I think they're being drowned out somewhat by the sick beats. I may just be bad at the game, but I do think there should be a difficulty select of sorts. I beat both stages, but I feel like I barely scraped by. Those patterns be complicated, even for a demo.
I find it pretty great so far. The tracks are nice, the artwork's cute and damn is it challenging.
Not that it's a bad thing, Parappa the Rapper 2 had very similar gameplay but was just not very challenging most of the time. I like the extra challenge here.
I can't wait to see how it'll look like in the future, so good luck with the development.
Hi creator, this may be a STUPID question, but will this game work without a controller/gamepad? I did try it with my laptop keyboard, but nothing worked (it couldnt select anything lol...) I
Heya! For keyboard users the game uses "S" for select and "D" for cancel. Sorry for not making that clear! (Although if that's not working either there must be another problem, so just let me know!)
First and foremost, this game is super cute and music is great. Is there a way for maybe later down the road in development to show what's going to be coming up? It's hard to prepare when you don't know when it's going to be a two bar or a single bar repeating and then when it immediately switches to support roles. There's also maybe a minor accessibility things with how button prompts end up meshing with the background and it's hard to see what you need to do next. Like I just can't see the L or R prompts when they're faded out. most rhythm games generally keep the things on screen in some way to let you know what to do and what's coming up. When they fade out on the two bars especially is a big "i have no clue what any of this is." Game is super cute though and I am excited to see it develop.
Thanks so much! I'll do my best to take this all into account for future gameplay changes, still learning about this kind of stuff and how players react to it so it's always helpful to know! :)

This demo is incredible so far, hope there will be a difficulty slider in the full due to the fact I crumple under pressure like a sheet of tin-foil.
The game looks amazing for the most part, but the UI needs some work. For example...
Suggestion: Make the record scratch able to be used with the D-pad, as sometimes I experience my joystick registering inputs that are caused by it snapping back to the center
(In other words, I make an up input, but because my controller flicked back down a bit too far, it would register a down input shortly after)

OH THANKS, I've been seeing people get this bug and I could never figure out what they were doing to trigger it. I'll do my best to have it fixed!

It seems to happen every time I play, though I have gotten it to work correctly once or twice. Either way, I'll send it over. Thanks.

keyboard remap please 🙏

It's REALLY COOL
I'll just change the button when you finish a level
And add the escape button to pause (because reflexes)
